"Sleeping Children Awake' was chosen to be screened at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Saskatchewan National Event from June 21-24 2012, This will be the second presentation, as the SCA was previously presented in 2010 at the TRCC's first national event in Winnipeg.
"Sleeping Children Awake" was broadcast again on June 21, National Aboriginal day, in recognition of the TRCC final gathering and report.

Dream Glorious Dreams article, by Jaci Washington, published in the Harmony Network Vernal Equinox Special 2023, detailing a dream about how Rhonda's compassion for the plight of First Nations, led to the creation of Sleeping Children Awake, which began a far reaching ripple effect. Initially, as one of the first documentaries to expose the effects of the residential school system, it helped to create a framework for the many productions that followed. The ripple that began with the intention of bringing this buried history into general awareness, and continued to move outwards to contribute to the healing of future generations.

The CBC News website posted the article entitled "Personal Acts of Reconciliation" on June 1, 2021 which discuses 10 simple actions you can take to learn more about reconciliation. "Sleeping Children Awake" is listed in the Watch Films and Documentaries section and is described as: "one of the earliest independent, feature length documentaries to broadcast on the Residential School System". click for more info...

The article discusses the dark legacy of Canada’s residential schools, and that perhaps the earliest film to document Indigenous survivors’ experiences, was Sleeping Children Awake.

Katharina Steiner was writing her bachelor thesis in history at the University of Lucerne, Switzerland , examining how Canada is handling its residential school history. She contacted Rhonda in March 2016 asking for an interview, after watching the documentary. Katrina was epecilly interested because in her research Sleeping Children Awake which was in production in 1990/91,was the earliest video documentary on the subject of Residential Schools that Katrina could find. Rhonda also suggested she interview Michael Cachagee ,which she did . This is the transcriptions from those interviews.
